Visceral Manipulation Therapy Benefits
What does Visceral Manipulation do?
Visceral Manipulation is used to locate and correct problems throughout the body. It encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance motility of the musculoskeletal system through the connective tissue attachments, and influence general metabolism, hormone and enzyme production
Visceral Manipulation Background
Visceral Manipulation was developed by Jean-Pierre Barral, Osteopathic Physician and Physical Therapist, who’s research and clinical work with the viscera led to this form of manual therapy that focuses on the internal organs, their environment, and their potential influence in many structural and physiological dysfunctions.
The visceral system relies on the interconnected synchronicity between the subtle movement of all the organs and structures of the body. Every organ and viscera moves in 2 phases Inspir and Expir (active-away and passive-toward the center of the body or the midline), on an embryological migration pathway. At optimal health, this harmonious relationship remains stable despite the body’s endless varieties of motion. But when one organ cannot move in harmony with its viscera due to abnormal tone, displacement, restrictive adhesions from prolonged exposure to toxicity, unhealthy stress and tension, strong-negative emotions, trauma and surgeries; it works against the body’s other organs and muscular, membranous, fascial and osseous structures.
This disharmony creates fixed, abnormal points of tension and restriction that the body is forced to move around. The chronic irritation in turn, causes multiple symptoms, pain, disease and dysfunction. Visceral Manipulation is a holistic avenue to correct this disharmony. We offer visceral manipulation in our Winter Park office.
